Von Hardenberg Candles began with a simple desire to create pure beeswax candles for our own pleasure and well being.  Our appreciation for an ancient craft, working with our hands and never being in complete control of the substance added charm to our endeavor.  After our visit to Germany and our journey to Denmark in search of beautiful wick, we were committed to share our simple desire with others.  Because of our love of all things close to nature, we wanted to work with a natural and pure product.  The long and interesting heritage of the Von Hardenberg family dating back to 1139, included the use of beeswax candles in everyday life for both heat and light.  Building on that history, the candle making von Hardenbergs in a small studio in Thornhill, B.C. grew their own tradition in 2004.  We hope you will come to enjoy the gently honey scented aroma, the warm golden light and all the wonderful healthy benefits of burning beeswax candles that we have to appreciate.

 Beeswax candles burn brighter, hotter and longer than paraffin with a beautiful warm golden halo.  Burning beeswax candles produce negative ions which neutralize and burn positively charged particles like dust, mould, bacteria and pollen.  These candles also help to eliminate odours in the kitchen and bathroom naturally.

Beeswax candles are non-toxic, burn cleanly and do not smoke.

Churches and cathedrals burn beeswax to avoid the soot and film build up on the painted ceilings and stained glass left behind by other candles.

Beeswax candles are nonallergenic and are therefore beneficial for people with respiratory problems.

It is said that burning beeswax candles an hour before sleep will result in a more peaceful sleep. 

Paraffin is a grayish black sludge that is a by-product of the petroleum refining industry. It is bleached creating dioxins, textured with acrolyn, a known carcinogen, scented with floral carbons and coloured with chemicals.  When burned these carcinogens fill the room with toxins which coats the walls, furniture and the insides of your lungs.
